55-point half carries Chiefs to final

By its own standards, Lakeland kept the offensive approach pretty simple in the District 2 Class 2A football semifinals.

The unbeaten Chiefs still managed to open a 35-point lead after one quarter and score 55 points by halftime on the way to a 69-29 rout of visiting Holy Redeemer.

Evan Pochas carried 16 times for 126 yards and 5 touchdowns in the win, which put Lakeland into Thursday night’s home district final against Dunmore.

Pochas sored three of his touchdowns in the first quarter to help Lakeland to a 35-0 lead.

The teams traded scores in a wild second quarter to reach halftime with the Chiefs in front, 55-22.

David Naniewicz, Kyle Lidy and Lacota Dippre also ran for Lakeland touchdowns. Dominico Spataro threw just eight passes, but one of them was a 20-yard touchdown to Jon Seamans.

Dippre also scored on a 63-yard kickoff return and helped lead the defense with two sacks.

Chris Chmiola and Luke Smurl also had two tackles for losses, Jordan Case recovered two fumbles and Seamans intercepted a pass that he returned 31 yards.

Luke Kopec led Holy Redeemer, rushing for more than 150 yards while scoring three times on two runs and a pass reception. Jacob Hunter hit Jake Griffin with an 80-yard pass for the other Royals touchdown.
