PLAINS – Dallas came in with a head start from the diving competition held a week earlier and immediately added to its lead with a win in the first swimming event, the 200-yard medley relay.
The Lady Mounts kept separating themselves from the pack from there, adding another relay win and an individual gold on the way to a comfortable team victory in Class 2A girls Friday and Saturday in the District 2 Swimming Championships at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.
Dallas compiled 328 team points to win by 119.
Gabby Spaciano, Gina Kerrick, Lydia Gonzales and Peyton Stauffer got Friday morning started with the medley relay win and ended the first day by combining to win the 200 freestyle relay. Each of the relay team members also placed in the top three of individual events.
Gonzales won the 200 individual medley while Spaciano took second in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Wyoming Seminary’s Ryleigh Collins and Alyssa Kelly led their team’s third-place effort. Collins took first in the 100 butterfly along with the 500 free while Kelly took first in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke.
Collins broke the district record in both her events, swimming a 55:64 in the butterfly and a 4:54.90 in the 500 free.
Kelly and Collins were also part of the win in the closing 400 freestyle relay, joining Cara McCall and Ava Betnar.
Scranton Prep’s Nicole Iriza was able to win the 50 free and 100 free to be the only girl on the second-place team to capture individual golds.
Holy Redeemer’s Julia Bucknavage won the team’s only first place in the 100 backstroke.
Scranton Prep topped Wyoming Seminary for second place, 209-195. Valley View was fourth with 148, followed by: Wyoming Seminary 195, Valley View 148, Holy Redeemer 101, Elk Lake 79, Lake-Lehman 57, Wallenpaupack 52, Abington Heights 46, Dunmore 32, Holy Cross 22 and Wyoming Area 10.
