Abington Heights secured the Lackawanna League championship and Dallas took control of the Wyoming Valley Conference title race with boys tennis victories Monday.
After winning a first-place battle over Valley View Friday, Abington Heights added 5-0 wins over both Scranton and Montrose on Senior Day to complete an unbeaten championship season in the league.
Dallas replaced Wyoming Seminary in first place by winning 5-0 in a meeting of the last two WVC unbeatens, clinching no worse than a tie for first in the process. The Mountaineers, who have allowed just one team point in eight matches, can take the title outright by winning a make-up match with fourth-place MMI Prep.
Abington Heights lost just 15 games in 20 sets of action while finishing 13-0 with 12 shutouts in the Lackawanna League.
Praneel Mullaiah won, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles against Scranton. Sam Christman and Domenic Peters won, 6-0, 6-0, at second and third singles against Montrose.
Those three formed the singles lineup in both wins while the Comets mixed things up in doubles, using seven different players. Ryan Salony was part of first doubles in both wins.
The Chesman brothers, Kyle and Tucker, won 6-0, 6-0 matches for Dallas at the top two singles spots.
Lucas DeRome-Jason Joshi and Jon Florencio-Muhir Mikul swept doubles, dropping just five games in four sets.
Lucas Carver battled past Jeremy Han in the one close match, winning 7-5, 6-4 at third singles.
While the WVC’s top two teams were squaring off, Wyoming Area was making sure it would finish no worse than tied for third by beating Crestwood, 4-1, to finish a 6-3 WVC season.
Gabe Cable-Braidon Kostik and Owen Hyzinski-Connor Kostik swept doubles while Dylan Stoss and Nick Winsock won at the top two singles spots.
Tommy Biscotti earned Crestwood’s point at third singles.
MMI Prep won the other WVC match, 4-1, over Tunkhannock to move back over .500 at 4-3.
Like Abington Heights, Montrose had a two-match day. The Meteors picked up a 4-1 win over Dunmore.
Valley View and Scranton Prep held on to second and third in the Lackawanna League with 5-0 wins over North Pocono and West Scranton respectively while Honesdale reached .500 with a 5-0 shutout of Wallenpaupack.
