Old Forge junior Joe Macciocco became the first District 2 boy to earn all-state honors so far this season when he was named to the third team when the Class 2A selections were announced early Wednesday.
The Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Team is being announced one class each day. A team for non-PIAA schools was announced Monday and a Class A team was released Tuesday. The remaining teams, Class 3A through 6A, will be revealed daily for the remainder of the week.
Macciocco went from reserve with a limited role to all-stater in one season. He averaged 15.2 points overall and boosted that to 17.7 season during the postseason, which, for Old Forge, ended in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association semifinals for the second straight year.
Five players and one coach from District 2 were on the girls all-state teams that were announced last week.
Moriah Murray and Ciera Toomey from Dunmore in Class 4A, Kylie Lavelle from Riverside in Class 3A and Kaci Kranson from Holy Cross in Class 2A were all repeat first-teamers. Kaeli Romanowski from Western Wayne made the second team in Class 3A.
Jeff Gregory from Pittston Area was named Coach of the Year in Class 5A.
Macciocco and all five of the girls selections play or played in the NEPA Elite AAU program out of Riverfront Sports in Scranton.
