Delaware Valley carried an unbeaten record all the way into the state tournament last season and will carry the No. 1 ranking into the start of this season.
The Lady Warriors were in the No. 1 position when the preseason Electric City Volleyball Academy Elite Eight Power Rankings of District 2 girls teams were released Friday afternoon.
The top four spots to open the season are the same as they were at the end of last season with Delaware Valley followed by Berwick, Holy Redeemer and Nanticoke.
Blue Ridge, which has been moved to Division 1 after continuing its recent run of success by winning the Lackawanna League Division 2 title last season, is in the fifth position.
Dallas and Tunkhannock are new to the rankings since the end of last season, occupying the sixth and eighth spots, sandwiched around Crestwood, which opens at No. 7.
Defending Lackawanna League Division 1 champion Western Wayne and Hazleton Area were also ranked at the end of last season, but are not in the Elite Eight to start this season.
The top three teams won District 2’s top three titles a year ago.
Delaware Valley was the Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 4A champion.
Berwick won the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional title.
Holy Redeemer was the District 2 Class 2A champion and the only district team to win a state tournament match. The Lady Royals advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A tournament before being eliminated.
Nanticoke reached the Class 3A subregional final.
Fifth-ranked Blue Ridge won the District 2 Class A championship.
