Off to an 0-3 start and facing a 14-point halftime deficit, Lake-Lehman summoned a comeback that produced the first win of the season for the Black Knights, a 22-20 victory over visiting Holy Redeemer in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 football game Friday night.
Holy Redeemer led 14-0 at halftime and moved back in front, 20-14, with less than four minutes to play.
Javon Borger, who had opened the Lake-Lehman scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion, repeated that scenario with 1:38 left. His tying touchdown and winning two-point conversion came after Holy Redeemer was called for a penalty on a fourth-down stop and three more penalties in the aftermath of the play to set up the Black Knights on the Royals 1.
Holy Redeemer was called for more than 20 penalties in the game.
The Royals came in on a two-game winning streak. They fell to 1-1 in the division and 2-2 overall.
Lake-Lehman, which was playing its division opener, had been outscored, 126-20, in its first three games.
Holy Redeemer raised that to 140-20 for 3½ games.
Josh Wesneski ran 5 yards for a touchdown, then Hunter connected with Zach Perta from 22 yards out for the first of their two touchdowns.
Borger put Lake-Lehman on the board, then Landon Schuckers tied the game on a 12-yard pass from Gavin Wallace in the last minute of the fourth quarter.
Perta’s 60-yard touchdown reception from Hunter gave Holy Redeemer the lead again.
