Those two elements of the game joined forces in the third quarter when the Wildcats scored 28 points to break away for a 35-0 shutout of visiting West Scranton in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 2 opener.
Janiszewski ran for the only touchdown of the first half before the Wildcats broke the game open in a five-minute stretch of the third quarter.
Josh Vinton got the outburst started with a 1-yard touchdown plunge, then intercepted a pass, leading to Carter Mistishin’s touchdown run a minute later.
The Wildcats scored again on the next play when lineman Kyle Guarino intercepted and reached the end zone on a 22-yard return.
Western Wayne quickly went the length of the field for its next score.
Janiszewski ran 93 yards before being pulled down at the 1.
Frankie Leyshon scored from there on the next play, invoking the Mercy Rule with nearly four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Janiszewski used the long run to reach a milestone, putting him at 1,001 yards on the season in just 102 carries. He has run for at least 160 yards in each game of a four-game winning streak and has run for a touchdown in every game this season, picking up 12 total for the Wildcats (5-1).
With Janiszewski carrying a season-high 24 times, the Wildcats ran the ball a total of 50 times for 440 yards.
Vinton had 67 yards on 10 carries.
Janiszewski and Mistishin also led the defense in the shutout.
Each had three tackles for losses. Janiszewski had four tackles and three assists while Mistishin had three tackles and five assists. Janiszewski had one sack and joined Mistishin for the others.
Guarino, Vinton, Ethan Grodack and Landon Wargo all had interceptions.
West Scranton lost its fifth straight since an Opening Night win.
