Dallas used its win over the former No. 1 to become the new No. 1 Big School in this week’s Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Football Power Rankings.
The Mountaineers defeated host Hazleton Area, 42-20, in a meeting of unbeaten teams occupying the top two spots in the rankings, which are compiled by our partners at NEPAFootball.com.
Crestwood also moved up this week while Delaware Valley reentered the rankings and Riverside joined the rankings for the first time.
There could be more movement ahead.
For the second straight week, there are three meetings of ranked teams on the schedule, two in Big Schools and one in Small Schools.
After moving up from No. 2, Dallas (6-0) will test its new ranking Friday in a game at a team that has been in and out of the rankings, Berwick (3-3).
Crestwood moved up from third to second in time to travel to Hazleton Area, which dropped from first to third. Both teams are 5-1.
The Comets moved up after knocking former No. 6 Wilkes-Barre Area out of the rankings with a 45-14, road rout.
Valley View (5-1) and Scranton (6-0) held on to fourth heading into their meeting at Scranton to decide sole possession of first place in Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1.
The Cougars are coming off a 21-14 victory over Abington Heights while the Knights are fresh off a 38-7 romp over Wyoming Area.
Delaware Valley (2-4) ripped North Pocono, 42-7, to move back into sixth in time to host a Saturday afternoon game against the team it replaced, Wilkes-Barre Area (3-3).
The same situation exists in the Small School rankings where Riverside (3-3) is the new No. 6 and plays Friday at Lackawanna Trail (3-3), the team it replaced.
The Small School rankings have been mostly stable for weeks and the top five again remains the same.
Lakeland is first, followed by West Scranton, Scranton Prep, Dunmore and Old Forge.
No. 1 Lakeland (6-0) is at No. 4 Dunmore (5-1). The Chiefs pounded Honesdale, 42-2, last week while the Bucks handled Mid Valley, 37-2.
Western Wayne (5-1) shut out West Scranton, 35-0, and is at Mid Valley (2-4) Friday.
Third-ranked Scranton Prep (4-2) is at Abington Heights (1-5) Saturday after routing Wallenpaupack, 44-7, last week.
Old Forge (3-3) held fifth by beating Lackawanna Trail, 33-20. The Blue Devils travels to Susquehanna (3-3) Saturday.
