EDITOR’S NOTE: Since this story was originally posted, the Susquehanna game has been scheduled for Saturday at Bangor at 12:30 p.m.

Susquehanna will be the only District 2 member school participating in the Eastern Football Conference championships this season.

The Sabers will play in the A/2A Division championship against Pen Argyl.

The Eastern Conference, once home to the most prestigious football playoff system in Pennsylvania outside of the suburban Pittsburgh area, continues to offer a championship series for the best of its 128-member schools who do not participate in their respective district tournaments as part of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state playoff system.

Williamsport, which competes with District 2 schools all season as a member of Division 1 of the Wyoming Valley Conference, is also playing.

The Eastern Conference has four championship games – one each for the largest two and smallest two PIAA classifications combined, plus one each in Classes 3A and 2A.

There are 40 EC schools in the Class 2A/A Division.

Pen Argyl was 23rd and Susquehanna 25th of those teams in the EC rating system. The top 22 of those teams and 23 of the top 24 are entered in their district tournaments, along with 27th-place North Penn-Mansfield.

Williamsport will play at District 1 Boyertown Saturday at 7 p.m. for the 5A/6A title.
