The first half of the District 2 playoff process – two of three boys rounds and one of three girls rounds – took place with limited movement in the Riverfront United Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
The newest rankings, determined before Thursday’s girls semifinals, set up a series of matchups that, depending on outcomes, could shake up future rankings.
The top three teams remained the same in both sets of boys rankings while there was just one change in either girls rankings.
The Wilkes-Barre Area boys rejoined the rankings after making the District 2-4 Class 4A Subregional championship against No. 1 Abington Heights.
The Old Forge and Holy Redeemer boys each moved up this week, along with the Lake-Lehman girls.
Both Abington Heights teams, the Dunmore boys and the Holy Redeemer girls hold down top rankings.
Abington Heights is followed by North Pocono and Delaware Valley in Big School boys.
North Pocono landed the home field for Friday’s District 2 Class 3A title game against unranked Tunkhannock. Delaware Valley was knocked out by Abington Heights, 2-0, during the Class 4A semifinals.
Wilkes-Barre Area moved into the fourth spot with two Class 4A playoff wins, including one over Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champion Hazleton Area in the semifinals.
Hazleton Area, which won the division in a playoff to start the week, slipped from fourth to fifth.
Wyoming Area remained in sixth following an overtime loss to North Pocono in the semifinals.
Dallas lost in WVC and district playoff games and fell out of the rankings.
District finalists Dunmore, Holy Cross and Wyoming Seminary held the top three spots in Small School boys.
Old Forge, which will go to Holy Cross for the District 2 Class A final, moved up from fifth to fourth.
Holy Redeemer took Dunmore to overtime in the semifinals to go from sixth to fifth.
Lake-Lehman dropped from fourth to sixth after losing at home to Scranton Prep in the Class 2A quarterfinals.
Holy Redeemer and Wyoming Area remain 1-2 in Small School girls and are now followed by their WVC Division 2 rival, Lake-Lehman, which handled Honesdale, 6-0, in the Class 2A quarterfinals.
Lake-Lehman trades places with Lakeland, which drops to fourth.
Montrose and Mid Valley remained fifth and sixth.
The Big School girls rankings remained the same after four wins and two quarterfinal byes, the same combined effort turned in by the ranked Small School girls teams.
Abington Heights is followed by Crestwood, Valley View, Wyoming Valley West, Dallas and Delaware Valley.
