Jaymire Allen scored 31 points and earned his team’s Most Valuable Player Award Friday night when Carbondale opened the season with a 64-53 victory at Elk Lake in the 47th annual Michael “Red” Wallace Memorial Scholarship Game.
Darryl Bennett added 17 points to help the Chargers handle the two-time defending Lackawanna League Division 4 champions.
Isaac Gesford scored 14 points and Wyatt Casselbury added 10 for Elk Lake. Casselbury was named MVP for the Warriors.
The game honors the memory of Wallace, who coached Elk Lake to two state titles. He graduated from Fell Township, which is now part of the Carbondale Area School District, and went on to play for the Boston Celtics.
