Perluke leads WVW to Duda title

Mackenzie Perluke scored 26 points and landed Most Valuable Player honors Tuesday night when host Wyoming Valley West rallied past Honesdale, 51-43, to claim the championship of the Mike Duda Tournament.

Honesdale led 10-5 after one quarter before Perluke started Wyoming Valley West on the comeback trail.

Perluke hit a pair of 3-pointers while scoring 12 points in the second quarter to pull the Lady Spartans within 24-21 at halftime.

Wyoming Valley West then outscored Honesdale, 18-6, in the third quarter to take control.

All-tournament selection Hailee Oliphant scored all eight of her points in the second half, hitting 3-pointers in the third and fourth quarters.

Thalia Irizarry also made the all-tournament team for Wyoming Valley West.

Elyse Montgomery scored 15 points and represented Honesdale on the all-tournament team along with Ruby Martin.

Dallas 44, West Scranton 24

Elizabeth Viglone scored 14 points to lead Dallas to third place, giving veteran coach Vince Bucciarelli his first victory in his new assignment as head coach.

Viglone, an all-tournament pick, had 10 points in the first half as Dallas took leads of 14-7 after one quarter and 27-14 at the half.

The Lady Mountaineers then blew the game open with a 13-1 third quarter for a 40-15 lead. Molly Walsh had 6 of her 11 points in the quarter.

Kydasia Dea led West Scranton with seven points.

Sahmira Menifee had all six of her points in the first half and made the all-tournament team.
