Natalie Goldstein scored 10 points and Honesdale used a strong early effort defensively to come away with a victory in Saturday’s closest girls basketball game, defeating visiting Nanticoke, 32-30, in non-league play.
The Lady Hornets led 5-2 after one quarter and 14-8 at halftime.
Nanticoke, which was led by Claire Aufiero’s 12 points, caught up, but Honesdale pulled out the win at the end.

Tunkhannock 43, Delaware Valley 19
Erin Van Ness scored 12 points and Maci Iddings added 11 as Tunkhannock defeated visiting Delaware Valley.
Montrose 46, Holy Cross 18
Mia Snyder and Hayley Pompey got the offense started while Montrose’s defense was holding visiting Holy Cross scoreless in the first quarter.
The Lady Meteors opened a 20-0 lead after one quarter on the way to their first victory.
Snyder hit two 3-pointers in the quarter on the way to a game-high 15 points. Pompey, who finished with 13, also had 6 points in the first quarter.
Montrose allowed just one first-half field goal while taking a 34-6 halftime lead.
Aspen Smith had 8 of her 10 points in the first half.
Giuliana Mazza and Jenna Luciani each made a 3-pointer and finished with five points.
Hazleton Area 46, Bethlehem Liberty 38
Four double-figures scorers accounted for all the Hazleton Area points in the win over visiting Bethlehem Liberty.
Brianna Kennedy scored 13 points while Lacie Kringe, Alexis Reimold and Sophia Shults added 11 each.
Scranton 65, Emmaus 41
Emmaus brought a 5-0 record to Scranton, but the Lady Knights handed the Hornets their first loss with a big first half offensively.
Finley Bittenbender hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 points in the win. Bittenbender scored 18 of her points in the first half when Scranton opened a 44-19 lead.
The Lady Knights scored 21 points in the first quarter, then outscored the Hornets, 23-4, in the second quarter.
Canyah Randle added nine points while Lanee Olson and Kamryn Alers had eight each. Olson was 6-for-7 from the line as part of the team’s 11-for-13 effort.
Mount Carmel 42, Dunmore 36
Alyssa Reisinger poured in 25 points to lead Mount Carmel to the win in the battle of unbeaten teams that are frequently among the state’s top small schools.
Mount Carmel, the 2021 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A state champion, outscored Dunmore in just one quarter. The Red Tornadoes used a 13-4 second quarter to take a 21-14 halftime lead.
Cadie Lewis hit four 3-pointers while leading Dunmore, a state Class 3A quarterfinalist last season, with 12 points. Sophia Talutto added 11.
Loyalsock Township 51, Abington Heights 47
Host Loyalsock Township moved in front in the third quarter on the way to defeating Abington Heights.
Elk Lake 53, Wyalusing Valley 40
Elk Lake outscored host Wyalusing Valley, 27-9, over the middle two quarters to take control on the way to victory.
Notre Dame Green Pond 39, Holy Redeemer 37
Freshman Bella Boylan scored 10 points to lead Holy Redeemer during its loss on the road.
North Schuylkill 67, Western Wayne 30
North Schuylkill ran away from host Western Wayne in the second half.
