Darius Wallace made three straight free throws in the final 20 seconds Wednesday night as Dallas held on to defeat host North Pocono, 50-46, in a non-league game between boys basketball division leaders.
Wallace gave Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 co-leader Dallas a four-point lead twice late in the game. He hit the second of two free throws with 19.4 seconds left to make it 48-44.
North Pocono’s Chris Walsh drove for a basket with 12 seconds remaining, but was unable to add the free throw to complete a three-point play.
Wallace was fouled again and made both shots with 6.1 seconds left to complete the scoring as the Dallas leader with 17 points.
Lackawanna League Division 2 leader North Pocono led 7-5 after one quarter.
The teams were tied, 17-17, at halftime before Mikey Cumbo scored 9 of his 14 points in the third quarter to help the Trojans take a 36-28 lead.
Wallace had 13 of his 17 points in the second half. He scored six in the third and seven in the fourth.
North Pocono’s A.J. Nemitz also had a big second half. He hit four of his five 3-pointers and scored 14 of his 21 points after halftime.
Walsh added 13 points and Noah West had 10.
Dallas, the No. 3 Big School in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Basketball Power Rankings of District 2 teams, improved to 17-2.
North Pocono lost its third straight to fall to 9-9.
