The championship schedule begins Thursday in District 2, but after a series of postponements, there is still one third-place game also being played. Along with the first 2 of 11 games at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, that makes for a three-game schedule Thursday.
NEPASportsNation.com editor Tom Robinson, who covers and writes about District 2 basketball for the website, is once again predicting the outcomes of games throughout the entire district and subregional playoffs.
Robinson correctly predicted the winners in more than 90 percent of the games in the 2022 tournament and this year’s quarterfinals before slipping below that number during the semifinals. After handling the predictions throughout the early rounds, he will once again be joined by a panel of prognosticators for the championship games at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. That set of predictions will follow shortly.
DISTRICT 2 PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS
By Tom Robinson
(Home team, where applicable, in CAPS)
DISTRICT 2 CLASS 3A BOYS FINAL
Mid Valley by 3 over Holy Redeemer
DISTRICT 2 CLASS 4A GIRLS FINAL
Scranton Prep by 19 over Wyoming Area
DISTRICT 2 CLASS 5A GIRLS THIRD-PLACE GAME
WALLENPAUPACK by 3 over Scranton
WHAT TO EXPECT
The first night of action at the arena is capped by a clash in styles.
If a fast-paced game develops, top-seeded Holy Redeemer is likely to win its third straight district title. If Mid Valley can dictate a slower, more methodical game, the upset predicted above becomes more likely.
