A District 2-11 Subregional basketball championship game will be coming to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for the first time.
Top-seeded Mountain View earned the right to bring the Class A girls championship game into District 2 territory Wednesday night when freshman Addison Kilmer posted a double-double and reached a season milestone during a 52-27, semifinal victory over visiting Weatherly.
Lily Sedlak scored 9 of her 12 points during a 21-4 third quarter in which Mountain View broke away after leading by just 5 at halftime.
The victory also clinches a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state playoff berth for Mountain View.
The Lady Eagles (17-6) will face District 11’s Pottsville Nativity BVM (7-14) for the subregional title. The two districts involved agreed Wednesday night to play the championship game Friday at 2 p.m.
Kilmer scored 14 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. She also blocked 7 shots to surpass 100 for the season.
The Kilmer blocked shots were not the only defensive prowess shown by the Lady Eagles.
They turned a 20-15 halftime lead into a 41-19 lead after three quarters.
“We turned up the defensive intensity in the third quarter big-time,” Mountain View coach Bill Simons said in a telephone interview. “That was the key.”
Kilmer had six of her points in the second quarter as the Lady Eagles went from a two-point lead to the five-point advantage at the break.
Weatherly was led by Emma Kane with eight points.
