Trey Zabroski, Nick Curry and Chandler O’Farrell each scored five goals Monday when Crestwood won a showdown between the top two teams in the Riverfront Sports Boys Lacrosse Power Rankings to essentially lock up the Wyoming Valley Conference title with a 19-9 victory at Delaware Valley.
Zabroski also had three assists while Curry and O’Farrell had two each.
Crestwood, the unbeaten WVC leader, entered the game ranked first in the Power Rankings while Delaware Valley was second.
The Comets improved to 10-0 in the WVC and 13-2 overall. One game with North Pocono was canceled because of COVID-19, meaning Crestwood has only to beat last-place Wyoming Area in its finale to finish unbeaten in the WVC.
Delaware Valley (7-2) was one of two teams still in contention with only one WVC loss prior to Monday. Wyoming Seminary (10-1) is the only team other than Crestwood that still has a mathematical possibility of finishing first.
The teams were tied after one quarter before the Comets scored eight points in each of the middle two quarters.
After opening a 10-4 halftime lead, Crestwood outscored Delaware Valley, 8-1, in the third quarter for an 18-5 lead.
Noah Schultz, who had an assist, and Brendan Dennis scored two goals each.
Xander Kelly had three goals and two assists while Nate Melnick had two goals and three assists for Delaware Valley. Brady Quinn chipped in with a goal and two assists.
