The District 2 Class 2A boys lacrosse playoffs get underway Thursday with four quarterfinal games.
Highlighting the first round of play is a matchup of Back Mountain rivals with fifth-seeded Lake-Lehman (7-7) at fourth-seeded Dallas (7-6).
Lake-Lehman won the Wyoming Valley Conference meeting, 18-10, and would have had the better record, higher seed and home field, but it had to forfeit two late-season victories after using an ineligible player.
Wyoming Valley Conference champion Crestwood (13-2) is the top seed and opens against Holy Redeemer (4-8).
The other two games are Tunkhannock (5-6) at Wyoming Seminary (13-3) and North Pocono (6-5) at Scranton Prep (8-4).
The last of the regular seasons – baseball and softball – are winding down while postseason action is now just about a daily occurrence across other sports.
Tunkhannock (11-1 in division, 15-2 overall) will be trying to clinch in the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 softball when it plays at Wyoming Valley West (5-8, 5-10).
The Lady Tigers can clinch at least a tie for first with a win. They can take the title outright if they win and second-place Pittston Area (11-2, 12-3) gets upset at last-place Wilkes-Barre Area (0-13, 0-16).
Wyoming Area (7-6) is at Pittston Area (5-10) in the annual non-league baseball game between the two rivals. The first Joe Agolino Sr. Memorial Award will be presented to the game’s Most Valuable Player.
Riverside (17-0) tries to complete an unbeaten baseball regular season when it plays at Delaware Valley (3-11) in another long game.
