Jacob Palermo shot 1-over-par, 37 at Blue Ridge Trail and three teammates joined him with 42 or better Thursday when Hazleton Area defeated Crestwood, 158-164, to take sole possession of the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 golf lead.
Both teams entered the match with 4-0 records.
Connor Matteo added a 39 for Hazleton Area while Jonathan Joseph added a 40 and Jacob Babinchak a 42.
Crestwood’s Owen Blazick also shot 37 and Derek Johnson had a 38. Tommy Biscotti’s 43 and Ray Joseph’s 46 completed the team score.
Scranton Prep, Montrose and Lake-Lehman also won to preserve perfect records.
Scranton Prep defeated North Pocono, 7½-1½ in Lackawanna League Division 1. The Trojans are the only team to finish ahead of the Cavaliers this season, beating them out of the title at the Bob Simons Classic.
Montrose topped Elk Lake, 7½-1½, in Lackawanna Division 4.
Lake-Lehman defeated Nanticoke, 145-200, in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 3.
Mid Valley, which has a tie, remained unbeaten in Lackawanna Division 3 with a 9-0 shutout of Western Wayne.
In other Lackawanna matches: Valley View defeated Wallenpaupack, 7-2, in Division 1; first-place Riverside edged Scranton, 5-4, while Holy Cross was defeating Delaware Valley, 6-3, and Dunmore was beating West Scranton, 7-2, in Division 2; Lakeland defeated Old Forge, 5½-3½ in Division 3; and Forest City downed Mountain View, 7-2, in Division 4.
In other Wyoming Valley Conference matches: Pittston Area defeated Wyoming Valley West, 160-168, in Division 1; Wyoming Seminary defeated Holy Redeemer, 161-166, and Holy Redeemer defeated MMI Prep, 164-171, in Division 3.
