Scranton Prep swept singles Thursday while defeating North Pocono, 4-1, in a showdown between two of the Lackawanna League’s top teams.
The defending champion Classics (4-0) entered the match ranked second among Small Schools in the Riverfront Sports Girls Tennis Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams. North Pocono (4-2) was second among Big Schools.
Freshman Alyssa Wigley defeated Julie Schriver, 6-0, 6-1, at number-one singles.
Annie Johnson got past Parri Salak 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 at second singles and Leelah Farrell defeated Madison Schriver, 6-2, 6-4, at third.
Scranton Prep also won number-one doubles where Ella Cohen-Giselle Falzone defeated Maddie Carney-Nora Pensek, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
North Pocono’s point came at number-two doubles where Shivani Patel-Ella Salek downed Sarah Aubrey-Paige Davis, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-3.
In other Lackawanna League matches: Riverside shut out Dunmore, 5-0; Abington Heights blanked Valley View, 5-0; West Scranton downed Delaware Valley, 5-0; Mid Valley edged Honesdale, 3-2; and Western Wayne slipped past Montrose, 3-2.
Riverside won all but the second set of second doubles, 6-0.
Karissa Ghigiarelli, Madeline DeFaber-Schumacher, Bella Aniska, Leah Pfeiffer-Elisabeth O’Hora and Madelynn Perfilio-Rita Linn had the wins.
Bella Peters and Rina Hanumali won, 6-0, 6-0, at the first two singles spots as Abington Heights improved to 5-0 to keep pace with Riverside.
Susan Arp, Faith Bennett-Hanna Adonizio, Bernie Mullin-Elina Joshi also won in straight sets.
West Scranton also won all five matches in straight sets, led by Madison Maloney’s 6-0, 6-2 victory and Mia Butka’s 6-3, 6-0 win at second and third singles.
Crestwood shut out Berwick, 5-0, in the lone Wyoming Valley Conference match.
