Berwick ended Holy Redeemer’s run of Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball titles last season.
Monday night, the Lady Bulldogs knocked the Lady Royals out of the WVC lead, handing them their first conference loss of the season by rallying from a first-set loss to win in four sets.
The match was tight throughout
Holy Redeemer won the first set, 25-23. Berwick recovered to win the next three sets, 25-23, 28-26, 25-21.
Cecelia Isenberg had 28 kills, 18 service points, 13 digs and 8 aces in Berwick’s victory.
Morgan Nevel had 31 assists, 16 digs and 3 kills. Camille Pinterich had 15 service points, 20 digs, 2 aces and 2 assists. Erin Hess and Cassidy Evans contributed 13 digs each. Kaylee Hacker added five kills.
Holy Redeemer was led by 17 digs, 15 kills and 12 points.
Eva Szura, who had 11 points and 7 digs, and Olivia Bilbow, who had 6 digs, added 10 kills each.
Crestwood swept Hanover Area in the only other WVC match.
Jadyn Hooper had 10 kills while Lizzie Sheldon had 12 points and 6 aces in the 25-13, 25-15, 27-25 victory.
Hope Blasko had seven kills and two blocks when Dunmore swept Lackawanna Trail in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match.
Emma Conte also had seven kills in the 25-10, 25-14, 25-16 victory.
Adriana Pacewicz had 23 assists.
North Pocono needed five sets to get past Abington Heights in the other Lackawanna Division 1 match.
The Lady Trojans recovered from the Comets winning the third and fourth set to pull out the 25-15, 25-12, 21-25, 14-25, 15-8 victory.
All three Lackawanna Division 2 matches ended in three-set sweeps: Blue Ridge over Montrose, Mountain View over Forest City and Susquehanna over Elk Lake.
Leigha McCain had 16 digs, 7 aces and 5 kills as Blue Ridge rolled to its fifth straight victory, 25-12, 25-7, 25-6.
