Lackawanna Trail bounced back from its first loss and from a 17-0 deficit Friday morning to defeat Hickory, 38-27, in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Dual Meet Wrestling Championships first-round Class 2A consolation match at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Cole Henry’s pin of Soor Patel 13 seconds into the second period of the closing 120-pound bout lifted the Lions to the victory after they had dropped the first four bouts.
Lackawanna Trail moved into the lead, 32-17, by winning six straight bouts.
Michael Bluhm got it started with a pin at 152, Deegan Ross followed with a technical fall and Robbie Schneider tied the match with a first-period pin.
Seth Ross posted a 3-0 decision at 189 to put the Lions in front.
They held the lead the rest of the way.
Mason Zayac and Jonah Houser provided consecutive pins at 215 and 285 for the 32-17 lead.
Hickory closed to within 32-27 going into the final bout.
Lackawanna Trail advances into the second round of consolations Friday afternoon at 4 against the loser of the Benton-Brookville quarterfinal.
The Lions are one of 12 teams remaining from the original state field of 20 teams and from the 16 that went to Hershey in Class 2A.
Lackawanna Trail is the Lackawanna League Division 2 and District 2 Class 2A champion as well as the No. 1 team in the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Power Rankings of district teams.
Abington Heights has a Class 3A first-round consolation coming up at 10 a.m.
