Cade Kelleher and Alex Hamilton got Abington Heights off to a fast start and the Comets swept the first two foursomes on the way to an 8-1 victory over Valley View Thursday to clinch the Lackawanna League Class 3A Division golf title.
Kelleher and Hamilton won their better-ball point by taking each of the first five holes and had their individual points wrapped up at 6 when Hamilton finished his victory with a birdie.
The Comets improved to 12-0-1 in the division and 13-0-1 overall with one match remaining. Second-place North Pocono has already lost twice.
Robert Munley and Robby Lucas followed Kelleher and Hamilton and swept those three points as well to secure the victory.
Hamilton started the day with a birdie and finished as medalist with a 2-over-par, 38 on the front nine at Elkview Country Club, site of the District 2 Individual Championships Oct. 3.
Carson Bushta earned Valley View’s only point in the final foursome.
Luke Morgan won his singles point and combined with Luke Swank for the better-ball point in the last group.
Valley View fell to 5-7-1.
Abington Heights became the third golf team to win a championship.
Crestwood clinched the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 championship Sept. 16 and has since completed an unbeaten league season.
Lake-Lehman wrapped up the WVC Division 2 title Wednesday.
