ALUMNI, D-I BASKETBALL: Lavelle, Toomey go head-to-head

Thursday’s NCAA Division I basketball schedule featured four District 2 alumni in action, including two former multi-year, all-state players going head-to-head.

Riverside graduate Kylie Lavelle went against Dunmore’s Victoria Toomey when Lavelle’s Drexel team hosted Rider. It was the college debut for Lavelle while Toomey is a senior serving as a team captain this season. Both players started, often going head-to-head while each finished as her team’s second-leading scorer.

The matchup between former Lackawanna League Division 3 standouts began at the opening tap when they jumped center against each other.

Here is a recap of how each of the alumni did in tonight’s game:

KYLIE LAVELLE, DREXEL UNIVERSITY WOMEN

Drexel (1-0) defeated Rider (0-2), 84-58 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

Individual statistics

Lavelle started in her debut at Drexel, played 26 minutes, 8/12 FG, 1/1 on 3-pointers, 3/4 on FT, 20 points; 3 offensive, 3 defensive, 6 total rebounds, 1 assist, 2 turnovers, 3 steals

Notes

Lavelle’s 20 points is the most points by a player in her Drexel debut since the team joined the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for the 2001-02 season … Her six rebounds tied for the team lead.

VICTORIA TOOMEY, RIDER UNIVERSITY WOMEN

Toomey started, played 28 minutes; 5/7 FG, 2/2 on FT, 12 points; 3 offensive, 2 defensive, 5 total rebounds; 4 assists; 1 block; 1 steal; 2 turnovers.

Notes

Toomey is the lone Bronco to score double figures in each of Rider’s games this season. Her five rebounds tied the team lead.

RACHAEL ROSE, WOFFORD COLLEGE WOMEN

5-foot-7 sophomore guard from Scranton Prep

Thursday’s result

Clemson (2-0) defeated Wofford (0-2), 79-68.

Individual statistics

Rose started, played 38 minutes, 6/9 FG, 2/4 on 3-pointers, 0/0 on FT, 14 points; 3 defensive rebounds, 6 assists, 2 turnovers, 5 steals

Notes

Rose’s 19 points in her Wofford debut at Youngstown State Monday tied for the team lead while she paced the squad with 6 assists and 3 steals … After going a perfect 9-for-9 at the charity stripe, she did not get to the line Thursday.

ETHAN MEUSER, STONEHILL COLLEGE MEN

6-foot-8 freshman guard from Wyoming Seminary

Thursday’s result

Quinnipiac (2-0) ruined the home debut by Stonehill (0-2), 102-95.

Individual statistics

Came off the bench to play 9 minutes, no shots other other statistics.

Notes

Tonight’s matchup vs Quinnipiac is the first Division I home game for Stonehill. This is the 42nd meeting between the two schools. Stonehill holds a 23-19 advantage in the all-time series.
