ALUMNI REPORT: D-I basketball

Wednesday’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I basketball schedule saw three games involving teams with District 2 graduates as either players or a head coach.

Here is a recap of how each did:

LEO O’BOYLE, LAFAYETTE COLLEGE MEN

Lafayette (6-14 overall, 4-3 Patriot League) won at American (12-6 overall, 4-3 Patriot League), 70-59

Individual statistics

Started, played 32 minutes; 5/8 FG, 1/3 on 3-pointers, 11 points; 2 offensive, 1 defensive, 3 total rebounds; 2 assists; 1 turnover.

Notes

O’Boyle was one of two Lafayette players to score in double figures. …The Leopards have won their last four games after starting Patriot League play 0-3. … Lafayette lost to American, 60-47, in its Patriot League opener on December 30. … O’Boyle leads the Leopards in scoring at 12.5 points per game and is shooting 91.7 percent (44-for-48) from the free-throw line.

Buffalo (8-6 overall, 3-2 MAC) lost to visiting Ball State (14-4 overall, 4-1 MAC), 81-59

Notes

The University at Buffalo saw its three-game winning streak come to an end against Ball State. … The Bulls were within 51-49 entering the fourth quarter. Buffalo’s Latrice Perkins scored on the first possession to tie the game, but Ball State outscored the Buffalo, 30-10, to pull away for the win.

CECELIA COLLINS, BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY WOMEN

Bucknell (6-12 overall, 2-5 Patriot League) lost to visiting Army (5-12 overall, 3-4 Patriot League), 52-43

Notes

Bucknell’s Emma Shaffer scored 15 points and added a career-high 15 rebounds in the loss to Army. … The Bison held Army to 31.1 percent shooting (19-for-61) but committed 22 turnovers.
