Lafayette, the No. 6 seed (11-22) defeated American, the No. 7 seed (17-15), 84-76 in double overtime, in a Patriot League semifinal game.

Started, played 44 minutes; 6/12 FG, 6/9 on 3-pointers, 5/5 FT, 23 points; 1 offensive, 5 defensive, 6 total rebounds; 1 turnover; 2 steals.

It was an eventful day for O’Boyle, who became the 48th player in Lafayette history to reach 1,000 career points when he made his second 3-pointer for a 23-10 lead with 7:25 left in the half. … Down five late in the first overtime, Lafayette scored 15 straight points, including 7 by O’Boyle. O’Boyle hit a 3-pointer from the left corner 4.6 seconds left in the first overtime to force the second. “I’ve shot that shot thousands and thousands of times in this gym,” said O’Boyle, who hit a four-point play to help the Leopards pull away in overtime. “The four-point play in the corner, that’s his specialty,” acting head coach Mike McGarvey said during the same post-game interview posted on the school’s athletic website. … The 23 points is one short of O’Boyle’s season high. The six 3-pointers are his season high.

Wofford, the No. 1 seed (22-9) lost to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the No. 2 seed (20-12), 63-53, in the championship of the Southern Conference Tournament

Notes

Chattanooga outscored Wofford, 40-19, in the middle two quarters as the Mocs claimed the Southern Conference championship. … Upon the conclusion of the game, the Southern Conference announced the All-Tournament teams, with four Terriers represented. SoCon Player of the Year, Rose earned a first-team nod. The four total selections are the most Wofford has ever had in a single tournament, doubling the previous high of two. … Wofford shot 33.9 percent (19-for-56) from the field and 36 percent (9-for-25) from 3-point range. Meanwhile, Chattanooga shot 51.2 percent (22-of-43) and dominated inside, outscoring Wofford, 22-14 in the paint and outrebounding the Terriers, 36-24.
