Wednesday’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I basketball schedule saw four District 2 graduates playing or serving as head coach.

Rider, the No. 10 seed (10-21), lost to Niagara, the No. 2 seed (18-11), 67-64 in an MAAC Tournament quarterfinal game.

Started, played 34 minutes; 4/6 FG, 5/7 FT, 13 points; 2 offensive, 5 defensive, 7 total rebounds; 3 turnovers; 3 blocks; 2 steals.

Rider’s season came to an end with the quarterfinal loss to Niagara in Atlantic City. … Leading 22-21 early in the second quarter, Niagara went on a 12-2 run to take its largest lead of the game, 34-23. … Trailing 57-47 with just over six minutes to play, the Broncos’ Makayla Firebaugh scored Rider’s next nine points. A layup by teammate Amanda Mobley cut the deficit to two points. Following a 3-pointer by Niagara, Toomey made a layup and was fouled. She missed the free throw but was fouled after an offensive rebound and sank both additional free throws to bring Rider within one with 1:08 remaining. Rider had multiple chances to tie the game down the stretch, but a pair of turnovers ended its chances. … Earlier in the day, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the MAAC Women’s basketball All-Academic team. Toomey was one of nine student-athletes from Rider honored by the conference. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

Buffalo, the No. 8 seed (12-16). lost to Toledo, the No. 1 seed (26-4), 75-74, in overtime in a Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal game.

The University at Buffalo saw its season come to an end as the Bulls lost to Toledo in a quarterfinal matchup in the MAC Tournament played in Cleveland. … The Bulls had a pair of good looks in the final seconds of regulation and overtime. Re’Shawna Stone’s shot attempt bounced out at the end of regulation and her shot in the final seconds of overtime was tied up by a Toledo defender and called a jump ball with 0.5 seconds remaining. … Buffalo’s fitfh-year guard Latrice Perkins scored her 1,000th career point on a 3-pointer from the corner in the final minutes of the first half. … “Proud of the 40 minutes of basketball that this team played today.” Burke said in a recap posted on the university’s athletic website. “Obviously not the outcome we wanted, but they left absolutely everything on the floor. I want to thank this team for one heck of a season and for laying a strong foundation for Buffalo women’s basketball as we move forward.”

LEO O’BOYLE, LAFAYETTE COLLEGE MEN

Lafayette, the No. 6 seed (11-23), lost at Colgate, the No. 1 seed (26-8), 79-61, in the Patriot League championship.

Colgate trailed just twice in three games in the Patriot League Tournament, 2-0 and 4-2 on O’Boyle baskets early in the game. … O’Boyle scored all nine of his points in the first half. … Lafayette’s foul trouble forced O’Boyle into the post late in the half. He scored a three-point play and another basket on post moves. … O’Boyle made all 11 of his free throws in three tournament games while scoring 46 points. … O’Boyle, who plans to use his last year of eligibility to play elsewhere next season, completes his four-year Lafayette career with 1,027 points.

GEORGE TINSLEY, MOUNT ST. MARY’S MEN

Mount St. Mary’s, the No. 8 seed (13-20), lost at Iona, the No. 1 seed (25-7), 74-54, in the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Tournament.

Came off the bench, played 31 minutes; 2/6 FG, 1/4 on 3-pointers, 5 points; 1 offensive, 3 defensive, 4 total rebounds.

Mount St. Mary’s season came to an end with the quarterfinal loss to Iona. … Three-pointers by Deandre Thomas and Xavier Lipscomb gave the Mount and early 6-3 lead. The Gaels responded with a 16-3 run to take the lead. Iona held a 10-point lead before the Mountaineers’ Jalen Benjamin scored six of the final seven points of the half to bring Mount St. Mary’s within 33-28 at the break. … Mount St. Mary’s remained within striking distance in the early part of the second half. Trailing, 44-39, Iona’s Walter Clayton Jr., the MAAC Player of the Year, took over and scored seven of Iona’s points in an 8-0 that helped the Gaels pull away. … Tinsley finishes the season averaging 7.1 points per game and 6 rebounds per game.
