Thursday’s Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) schedule saw two District 2 graduates in action.

Wofford (22-10) lost at Florida (17-14), 66-63, in the first round of the Women’s NIT.

Wofford pushed Florida to the edge but an Annabelle Schultz 3-point attempt in the final seconds would not fall. … The tightly contested game saw nine lead changes and six ties. … The Terriers opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers. The game remained tight early with Wofford holding a slight edge until a Gators 3-pointer at the 2:58 mark gave Florida the lead and sparked a 19-point run that stretched into the second quarter. Wofford battled back, outscoring Florida 19-8 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to one point at the half. … Wofford opened the second half with a 3-pointer to take the lead and both sides continued to go back and forth until the Terriers went on a 7-0 run to take a 43-36 lead with 5:07 remaining in the third quarter. Rose scored five of the Terriers seven points in the run. Florida remained tough and fought back to lead 52-50 after three quarters of play. … Wofford’s Jackie Carman made a 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining to pull the Terriers to within 64-63. Florida converted two free throws and its defense provided pressure on the last shot attempt. … Rose finishes the season as Wofford’s leader in points per game (17.2), rebounds (5.7 per game) and assists (133). She also had 64 steals.

Drexel (21-10) lost at Fordham (19-12), 73-63, in the first round of the Women’s NIT.

Drexel’s Keishana Washington scored a career-high 43 points to set a Rose Hill Gym single game record for an opponent. It breaks the previous mark held by Julius Erving when he played for UMass on January 21, 1970. … It was a slow start as both teams shot less than 25 percent from the floor in the first quarter. A late 8-3 scoring run by the Dragons tied the score, 10-10, at the end of the opening period. … Lavelle opened the second quarter with a pair of free throws and a jumper from Washington gave Drexel a 14-10 lead. Fordham responded with a 12-3 run, forcing a Drexel timeout. The Dragons closed the half scoring 12 of the last 14 points to lead, 29-24 at the break. … Drexel started strong in the third quarter to lead by eight just two minutes into the quarter. Fordham took advantage of cold shooting by the Dragons, using a 19-3 run to lead by three with one quarter remaining. … Drexel pulled within two a couple of times early in the final quarter, but the Rams answered and built an eight-point lead with 2:38 remaining. … Drexel has won 20 or more games in six consecutive full seasons and made nine straight trips to the postseason. … Lavelle finished her freshman season averaging 11.1 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game.
