ALUMNI REPORT: Gillen all-PSAC

Bloomsburg’s Shay Gillen was one of just two freshmen to earn first-team, all-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors in men’s soccer this season.

The Valley View graduate helped the Huskies finish first in the PSAC East during the regular season with an 8-3-1 record. He scored four goals and assisted on five others for Bloomsburg, which went 14-5-1 overall.

Bloomsburg fell to Mercyhurst, the country’s second-ranked National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II team, 1-0, in the PSAC championship game.

Gillen scored a first-half goal then assisted on the game-winner Oct. 19 in a 3-2 win over Shippensburg. That completed a seven-game stretch in which he had four goals and three assists while helping Bloomsburg win six times.

The 6-foot-3 midfielder was a Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association all-state selection in his senior season at Valley View.
