ALUMNI REPORT: Scranton’s offense featured Prep graduates

Three sophomores from Scranton Prep contributed to the high-powered offense that carried the University of Scranton to the Landmark Conference softball championship series.

The Lady Royals batted .365 as a team and averaged more than seven runs per game while outscoring opponents, 218-84.

Outfielder Lauren Cawley and catcher Isabella Gorzkowski were starters and outfielder/catcher Mia Gianello came off the bench during Scranton’s 24-7 season that included a 20-4 regular-season record in the Landmark.

Cawley batted .406 with 26 RBI and 19 runs scored in 29 games. Her RBI total was tied for second-best on the team. Cawley had five doubles, four triples and two home runs.

Gorzkowski had a .362 average with 12 RBI in 25 games. She had three doubles, a triple and four runs scored.

Gianello appeared in six games and went 2-for-6 (.333).

Scranton shut out Catholic in both games of the Landmark semifinals, then opened the finals with a 10-6 win over Moravian before falling in the final two games, 6-4 and 9-8.
