Balance carries Cougars, Cavaliers

Kyle Rupp led a balanced attack with 13 points and 9 rebounds and Valley View rallied in the fourth quarter to pull out a 50-47 victory over West Scranton in a Lackawanna League Division 1 boys basketball game Jan. 13.

A.J. Kucharski added 11 points and 9 rebounds while Taheed Jewell scored 10 points for the Cougars.

Eli Yusavage scored seven of his eight points in the fourth quarter when Valley View outscored West Scranton, 18-10, to overcome a five-point deficit.

Yusavage had a three-point play earlier in the quarter and hit two free throws in the final minute. He was 3-for-3 from the line as part of the Cougars shooting 6-for-8 in the fourth quarter.

Tristan Lee had 8 of his 18 points in the third quarter to help West Scranton turn a 24-17 halftime deficit into the 37-32 lead the Invaders took into the fourth quarter.

Evan Laybourn-Boddie added 14 points in the loss.

Scranton Prep 71, Scranton 51

Daniel Santaniello scored 18 points to lead five Scranton Prep players in double figures during the home-court win.

James Pettinato went 6-for-6 from the line in the fourth quarter to finish with 13 points.

Brycen Martin scored all 10 of his points in the second half. Kellen Casey and Ambrose Rossi also finished with 10 points.

Chase Scanlan hit two 3-pointers while scoring all eight of his points in the first quarter.

Scanlan helped the Cavaliers to a 19-9 lead after one quarter.

Santaniello had nine in the second quarter for a 36-26 halftime lead.

Oliver Almonte led Scranton with 23 points.
