Berwick perfect in regular season

Berwick completed a perfect regular season in girls volleyball Tuesday night and the Lady Bulldogs made it look easy.

Cece Isenberg had 22 kills and 10 digs as Berwick swept visiting Nanticoke, 25-9, 25-9, 25-12, to wrap up a Wyoming Valley Conference championship.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season 14-0 in the WVC and 17-0 overall.

Sarah Steeber had 16 service points, 9 kills and 8 aces in the win. Morgan Nevel had 36 assists. Camille Pinterich added 10 points, 7 digs and 3 aces.

Berwick opened the season with seven straight sweeps and closed the regular season on another streak of seven straight sweeps.

The Lady Bulldogs did not lose a set in nine home matches. The only opponents to take a set were when host Delaware Valley took Berwick to five sets in its only loss of the season and when Holy Redeemer made it a four-set match on the Lady Royals’ home court.

Berwick clinched at least a tie for the WVC title Wednesday

Nevel had 11 aces among her 17 service points in the 25-6, 25-6, 25-12 romp over MMI Prep.

Pinterich had 16 points with the help of 12 aces. Steeber contributed 11 points, 7 kills and 5 aces. Isenberg had a team-high 15 kills.

Before clinching Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs added a non-league victory over Pottsville Saturday.

Isenberg had 20 kills in the 25-12, 25-16, 25-10 victory.

Other statistical leaders in the win included: Steeber with 13 points, 7 kills, 6 aces and 6 digs; Nevel with 29 assists, 12 points and 4 aces; Claire Riera-Gomez with 9 points, 3 aces and 2 kills; and Kaylee Hacker with 5 kills.

Berwick has earned the top seed in the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional where it is the defending champion. The Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to host a quarterfinal match Oct. 27 and have also earned the home court for the semifinals before the neutral-court final.
