Black Knights, Royals move to 1-2

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated to reflect that Lake-Lehman at Holy Redeemer game has been rescheduled from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Lake-Lehman and Holy Redeemer climbed into the top two spots in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Baseball Power Rankings of District 2 teams in time for their early showdown for the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 lead.

The Lake-Lehman-at-Holy Redeemer game is one of two WVC showdowns set for Wednesday.

Hazleton Area hosts Pittston Area in a game between the WVC Division 1 co-leaders and the teams that remained No. 1 and No. 2 among Big Schools when the new rankings were released Tuesday morning.

Lake-Lehman, last season’s final No. 1 Small School, moved up from second to first this week. Holy Redeemer jumped from fourth to second.

Dallas and Mid Valley also move up this week while Valley View, Old Forge and Carbondale join the ranking.

Every spot in the Small School rankings changed.

Lake-Lehman moved up by winning its only game, 8-7, over Northwest.

Holy Redeemer improved to 3-0 overall by winning its WVC Division 2 opener, 10-4, over Wyoming Seminary. The Royals and Black Knights are 1-0 in the division, one-half game behind Nanticoke, a Big School.

Lackawanna League Division 2 leader Mid Valley also gains two spots, going from fifth to third after beating Dunmore, 9-2, and Western Wayne, 11-4.

Old Forge, which is second in Division 2 behind Mid Valley, and unbeaten Lackawanna Division 3 co-leader move into the rankings in fourth and fifth.

Riverside lost twice to drop all the way from first to sixth.

Lakeland Elk Lake dropped out of the rankings.

While the Small School rankings were overhauled, the top three in the Big School stayed the same.

Hazleton Area and Pittston Area are followed by North Pocono, which is 4-1 with the only loss coming against District 11’s Northampton.

The Cougars are Patriots are 3-0 and tied for first in WVC Division 1 going into their game for sole possession of the division lead.

Dallas moves up one spot to fourth. The Mountaineers suffered their first loss to top-ranked Hazleton Area, but came back to win twice by a total of 24-1.

Valley View won three straight to join the rankings in sixth.

The Cougars won 4-3 over Abington Heights, dropping the Comets from fourth to sixth.

Crestwood dropped from the rankings after suffering its first two losses.
