Blue Ridge moves up to second

Blue Ridge used the only state tournament victory produced by a district team to move into the second spot in the final Riverfront Sports Super Six Boys Volleyball Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The final rankings were released Tuesday night. The season ended for district teams with Blue Ridge’s loss Thursday in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A state quarterfinals.

Abington Heights was eliminated in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A state tournament, suffering its first loss of the season. The District 2 Class 3A title and championship of the Lackawanna League, where Blue Ridge finished second, leave the Comets in the top position in the rankings.

Blue Ridge also won the District 2 Class 2A title while finishing third in the District 1-2-11 Class 2A Subregional.

Tunkhannock slipped from second to third in the final rankings.

The Tigers had already completed their season.

The remaining teams were also finished. Berwick, Holy Redeemer and Delaware Valley remained in the fourth, fifth and sixth spots for the final rankings.
