BOYS ROUNDUP: Hornets upset Cavaliers; Invaders post victory

Nathan Hugaboom scored 19 points and secured the game’s final rebound Tuesday night when Honesdale upset host Scranton Prep, 64-63, in a Lackawanna League Division 1-2 crossover game.

The Hornets had the two biggest surges in a game of streaks.

Honesdale ran off 12 straight points late in the first quarter for a 21-8 lead.

Scranton Prep recovered and led 47-41 midway through the third quarter before the Hornets went on a 16-1 tear that carried into the fourth quarter.

The Cavaliers made it close again coming down the stretch and Kellen Casey’s steal and layup with 1:04 left pulled Scranton Prep to within the final score of 64-63.

Scranton Prep’s defense and Honesdale’s foul shooting gave the Cavaliers 3 chances in the last 55 seconds. Between missed shots, they lost one possession on an offensive foul.

Following the final miss, the rebound was tipped around several times before Hugaboom came down with it in a crowd just before the final buzzer.

Daniel Santaniello scored 14 points to lead Scranton Prep, which is 6-5 in the league and 12-8 overall. Brycen Martin made four 3-pointers while adding 13 points.

Honesdale improved to 5-6 and 6-14. The Hornets moved into second place in Division 2 and maintained slim title hopes.
