BULLETIN: Lake-Lehman captures state team title in Class 2A golf

EDITOR’S NOTE: While NEPASportsNation.com compiles more detailed reports from the state team golf championships, here is quick look at the results.

Michael Lugiano and Eli Ropietski shot 1-under-par, 73s on the Penn State Blue Course Wednesday and Lake-Lehman brought four players in at 76 or better to win the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Team Golf Championship in its first appearance.

The Black Knights won the Class 2A boys title with a score of 8-over, 296, 12 better than second-place Devon Prep and at least 24 better than the four other teams in the field.

Cael Ropietski added a 74 and Charlie Weidner shot 76.

Devon Prep went under par early and led by as many as eight at one point, but the four players who counted in Lake-Lehman’s score all played their last 10 holes in even par.

Abby Beyer added an 87 in the tournament, which counts the top four scores out of five. If any of the four individual state qualifiers – three of which medaled with their performances Monday and Tuesday – had faltered, Beyer’s score would have been good enough to bring Lake-Lehman in as either the champ or second-place finisher.

All four divisions featured six teams.

Scranton Prep placed third in Class 2A girls with a score of 268, including 88s by individual state qualifiers Gianna Cafarella, who medaled Tuesday, and Miranda Karoscik.

North Pocono took fifth in Class 3A girls.

Three-time District 2 individual champion Gwen Powell played her first nine in even par and shot an 80.

The Lady Trojans posted a 276 for the three-player score used in the girls tournaments.

Crestwood placed sixth in Class 3A boys. Derek Johnson led the Comets with a 78.
