CLASS A GIRLS SOCCER RECAP: Montrose tops Lakeland in final

Chloe Diaz scored both goals Saturday when host Montrose claimed the District 2 Class A girls soccer title with a 2-1 overtime victory over Lakeland.

The Lady Chiefs had beaten the Lady Meteors out of the Lackawanna League Division 2 title in a close race, but Montrose gained the top seed and championship game home field with a better overall performance on the season.

Montrose avenged a loss in last year’s final when Aspen Smith set up Diaz for the overtime game-winner.

Riley Keihl had assisted a Diaz goal for a 1-0 halftime lead.

The championship sent Montrose (14-2) into the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament against District 4 runner-up Southern Columbia (14-6-1) Tuesday night at 6 at Scranton Memorial Stadium.
