CLARKS SUMMIT – Scranton Prep remained unbeaten in doubles on the season and No. 1 singles player Alyssa Wigley provided the clinching point Tuesday morning as the Classics advanced to the state quarterfinals in Hershey with a 5-0 shutout of District 11 champion Moravian Academy in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A girls tennis team tournament match.
The unbeaten Classics locked up the first two points by winning both doubles matches in straight sets.
Wigley then defeated Francesca Bartolacci, 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the first-round win.
With the team outcome already decided, the other two singles matches were completed, but with altered formats. No. 2 singles played a 10-point tiebreaker and No. 3 singles, where the third set was already underway, went with no-advantage scoring for the rest of the match.
The state quarterfinals will be played Friday at the Hershey Indoor Racquet Club. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Saturday.
Cumberland Valley 4, Abington Heights 1
Rina Hanumali provided the only Abington Heights point at No. 2 singles during the Class 3A match that completed the doubleheader at the Birchwood Tennis & Fitness Center.
At the time her match finished, Hanumali created a 1-1 tie in the team score.
The No. 1 doubles team of Hanna Adonizio-Faith Bennett extend their match to a third set and No. 3 singles payer Sona Hanumali took the first set to a tiebreaker.
