WILKES-BARRE – Sam Christman and Domenic Peters dominated at No. 2 and No. 3 singles Tuesday afternoon at Kirby Park as Abington Heights remained unbeaten while rolling to its 10th straight District 2 Class 3A boys tennis team championship with a pair of shutout victories.
Abington Heights defeated Berwick, 4-0, in the semifinals then topped Lackawanna League rival Valley View, 4-0, in the final.
The Comets are 16-0 and have not allowed a team point in their last 14 matches.
Abington Heights has won every district title since being upset by eventual champion Delaware Valley in the 2012 semifinals. There was not a boys tennis season in 2020 because of COVID.
Christman and Peters were part of the team scoring in both rounds Tuesday when they won all of their matches, 6-0, 6-0.
They were just part of an overpowering performance.
Praneel Mallaiah lost only one game at first singles and Manan Pancholy-Mike Klamp dropped just two at second doubles in the semifinal victory. Luke Morgan-Liam Farrell were in front at first doubles when the match was halted with the team outcome decided.
Morgan-Farrell won, 6-1, 6-1, for the other point in the final against Valley View.
The Comets won 56 of the 63 completed games in the final and were within two games of wins at first singles and second doubles when the title was clinched.
Third-seeded Valley View reached the final with a 3-0 semifinal victory over second-seeded Delaware Valley.
Luke Kotcho won at No. 1 singles while L.V. Pegula-A.J. Tomassoni and Carson Bushta-Jack McLaughlin swept doubles for the Cougars.
