Abington Heights followed up another offensive outburst with defensive perfection.
Once the Comets were done scoring 37 in the second quarter, they didn’t need any more.
In the second half, they didn’t allow any points, shutting out visiting Wyoming Valley West in the third and fourth quarters to finish off an 79-24, non-league rout for Ken Bianchi’s 850th career boys basketball coaching victory.
Ryan Nealon led the way for Abington Heights with 25 points.
The Comets led 22-8 after one quarter.
By halftime, the lead had swelled to 59-24.
Abington Heights has scored at least 34 points in a quarter 3 times and at least 53 points in a half 3 times during its 5-0 start.
The Comets have outscored opponents 233-100 – an average of 46.6-20 – in the first halves.
The win improved Bianchi’s career record to 850-376, including 567-137 at Abington Heights where he guided the Comets to the 2018 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 5A state title during a streak of 13 straight state tournament appearances.
