Lackawanna League Division 1 rivals Abington Heights and Delaware Valley traded title-winning performances throughout the season and wound up first and second in the final Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
The end-of-season rankings, which combine an assessment of team performances in both dual meets and individual tournament settings, were posted Tuesday.
Abington Heights, which had been No. 1 in the last set of rankings, released in advance of the district dual meet finals, also finished No. 1.
The Comets won the Lackawanna League Division 1 title and the team championship at the District 2 Class 3A Individual Championships. They finished fifth at the Northeast Regional and 18th at the state individual tournament.
Delaware Valley won the Lackawanna League Tournament and District 2 Class 3A Dual Meet titles.
Honesdale climbed from fifth to third in the final ranking after winning District 2 Class 2A titles in both the Dual Meet Tournament and at the individual championships. The Hornets were ninth at the Class 2A Northeast Regional.
Lackawanna Trail slipped from third to fourth in the rankings. The Lions were second to Honesdale in both district events before placing fifth in the Class 2A Northeast Regional and 11th in the state.
Wallenpaupack dropped from fourth to fifth. The Buckhorns were third in the team scoring in Class 3A at districts and 13th at the Northeast Regional.
Wyoming Valley West and Berwick remained sixth and seventh.
Wyoming Area replaced Pittston Area in the eighth spot after the Warriors used their two individual state champions, Jaden Pepe and Anthony Evanitsky, to finish seventh in the Class 2A team scoring at the state tournament. The Warriors were fourth in the district and seventh in the Northeast Regional.
