Nick Curry scored four goals and Crestwood held off a spirited Susquehannock comeback Saturday afternoon to return to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AA boys lacrosse state semifinals with a 12-11 victory at Schuylkill Valley High School in Leesport.
The Comets became the first District 2 team to reach a state semifinal when they got there in 2019. There was no tournament in 2020 when spring sports were canceled in Pennsylvania because of the pandemic.
Crestwood will face a team making history for its district when it returns to the semifinals Tuesday in a game that is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Emmaus. Allentown Central Catholic (21-1) became the first District 11 lacrosse team to reach the semifinals when it routed Penncrest, 15-3, running up a 13-2 halftime lead behind seven goals by Jack McGorry.
The Comets (18-2) carried a 12-7 lead into the fourth quarter before Penncrest rallied.
Chandler O’Farrell scored three goals and Trey Zabroski two in the win.
Crestwood led, 7-4, at halftime.
The Comets are Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 2A champions as well as the No. 1 team in the final Riverfront Sports Super Six Boys Lacrosse Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
