Crestwood begins year at No. 1

Crestwood opens the season in the same spot it ended 2022, on top of the Riverfront Sports Girls Lacrosse Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The defending Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 2A champion Lady Comets lead the first set of spring sports rankings, which were released late Wednesday night.

Wyoming Area, last year’s final No. 2 team, is also in the same spot

Dallas, Abington Heights and Scranton Prep round out the first set of five-deep rankings.

Crestwood, which went 18-2-1 a year ago, is off to a 2-1 start. The Lady Comets lost, 15-12, to District 11’s Pleasant Valley and won their two games against District 2 opponents by a total of 35-8 over Delaware Valley and Holy Redeemer.

Wyoming Area joined Crestwood in last season’s district final and Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state Class 2A tournament.

The Lady Warriors defeated Lewisburg, 11-6, and Wyoming Seminary, 9-6, in their first two games.

Dallas, unranked at the end of last season, opens in third with the help of a 2-0 start. One of the wins was 8-2 over Lake-Lehman, last season’s final No. 3 team and a team it lost to 21-5 in the District 2 Class 2A quarterfinals.

Scranton Prep was fourth and Abington Heights fifth to end last season.

They open in reverse roles after Abington Heights defeated Scranton Prep, 7-6, in its season opener.
