Crestwood swept a formerly ranked opponent to open the playoffs and Hazleton Area rolled into the postseason with a win over the team it replaces in this week’s Electric City Volleyball Academy Elite Eight Power Rankings of District 2 girls teams.
The latest rankings were announced Wednesday morning with the District 2 playoffs still in their early stages.
Crestwood moved up from fifth to fourth after a three-set victory over Tunkhannock in the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional quarterfinals.
Hazleton Area, which had played just once in a 27-day stretch, closed the regular season with four wins in four days. Two of those wins and a District 2 Class 4A semifinal victory over Wyoming Valley West fell within the last rankings week.
The Lady Cougars beat Dallas, the team they replace in eighth, in the last match of the regular season.
Delaware Valley, Berwick and Holy Redeemer, the defending district champions in Class 4A, 3A and 2A, remain first, second and third in the rankings.
Western Wayne and Dunmore, the top two teams in the Lackawanna League and the top two seeds in 2A, are again sixth and seventh.
