Crestwood eliminated in overtime

Gracyn Catalano’s second goal, with 4:43 left in overtime, lifted Mechanicsburg over Crestwood, 3-2, Saturday in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A field hockey state quarterfinal at Governor Mifflin High School.

Catalano scored on her own rebound to send the Wildcats (19-4-1) into the state semifinals. Crestwood, the District 2 champion, finished 14-8.

Crestwood had rallied twice during regulation, including McConnell’s goal with 22 seconds to force the overtime.

Cam Standish had scored exactly four minutes earlier, coming up with her 100th career point go move Mechanicsburg in front, 2-1.

Catalano’s first goal, on a Standish assist, 2:04 into the second quarter had opened the scoring.

Aubrey Macri’s goal, on a rebound less than four seconds before the halftime buzzer, lifted Crestwood into a 1-1 tie.

Mechanicsburg led in shots on goal, 14-7, and penalty corners, 10-6.

The Wildcats had a 7-0 advantage in penalty corners after halftime when the only shot it allowed was the one by McConnell from the right side of the circle to force overtime.

Isabella Caporuscio made 11 saves in the loss.
