Crestwood has veteran girls lineup

The presence of a balanced lineup featuring five experienced senior players gives Crestwood reason to hope for improvement in this girls basketball season.

The Lady Comets went 3-11 to tie for last in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 last season and were 8-14 overall, exiting the playoffs with a first-round loss.

Grace Pasternick, Julia Glowacki, Cadence Hiller, Camryn Collins and Katelyn Bozinko are the five senior starters.

While the Lady Comets were splitting their first two games, each starter finished with between 6 and 13 points in each game.

The reason for optimism does not end there.

“We have some players who saw playing time last year who we are hoping can help us,” coach Don Hopkins said during the WVC Media Day at Grotto Pizza.

Junior Mary Kate Bamford and sophomore Kate Gallagher and Kendall Petrosky are the experienced youngsters, who at this point are forming the team’s key depth.

Freshman Jordan Andrews and Keira Dougherty give Hopkins more options.

“We’re going to be a competitive team,” Hopkins said. “We’re looking forward to it.”

The Lady Comets opened their season by handing Valley View what is now the Cougars’ only loss in four games. Their loss came as the closest of Marian Catholic’s five victories in six games.
