Strong starts by Crestwood and Lackawanna Trail have included beating teams above them leading to the obvious results – both the Lady Comets and Lady Lions move up in this week’s Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Honesdale joins the rankings for the first time after picking up from its District 2 Class 3A championship run from a year ago with its own fast start.
Those three teams have combined to win 11 of 12 games so far this season with the only loss coming, 1-0, to a three-time defending state champion on a two-year winning streak.
That state champion is Wyoming Seminary, which continues to hold the top spot, followed by Wyoming Area, in the new rankings, which were revealed Friday morning.
Wyoming Seminary played and won its first two games this week.
Wyoming Area won its only game.
Crestwood and Lackawanna Trail each moved up two spots and are now ranked third and fourth.
Before falling 1-0 to Wyoming Seminary, Crestwood was the first District 2 team to get to five wins, adding two more victories this week – 4-2 over Lewisburg and 2-0 over Wyoming Valley West, the team that had been ranked higher.
Lackawanna Trail only played once during the week, posting its second straight 3-0 victory over a highly regarded – and, then, higher-ranked – Lake-Lehman team.
Lake-Lehman falls from third to fifth.
Honesdale is the new No. 6 team after giving up its first goal of the season in its only game of the week, a 3-1 victory over Wilkes-Barre Area. The Lady Hornets are 4-0 by a combined margin of 17-1.
Wyoming Valley West, which had started the season third, goes from fourth to out of the rankings. The Lady Spartans are 0-3, but their one-, two- and three-goal losses have come against teams with a combined 14-1 record this season.
