Crestwood wins WVC Division 1

By Tom Robinson, NEPASportsNation.com

Friday night’s results impacted all three divisions of the Lackawanna Football Conference and ended one of the two races in the Wyoming Valley Conference.

Crestwood captured the WVC Division 1 title while Lakeland and Old Forge pulled out close games to take major steps toward titles. Delaware Valley and Valley View helped simplify the LFC Division 1 race while moving into a tie for first place.

A quick look of what Friday’s results mean.

WYOMING VALLEY CONFERENCE DIVISION 1

Results

Crestwood 56, Berwick 21

Wilkes-Barre Area 35, Dallas 7

Hazleton Area 28, Williamsport 14

What it means

The race is over with Crestwood finishing at 5-1 and every other team having at least two losses with one week remaining in the schedule. The Comets play outside the division next week.

How it happened

Berwick and Dallas each suffered their second divisional losses and, although Hazleton Area remained at two losses, it needed Crestwood and Dallas both to lose to remain in the race.

WYOMING VALLEY CONFERENCE DIVISION 2

There were no games that impacted the race, which will be decided Oct. 28 when Wyoming Area plays at Pittston Area in a meeting of division unbeatens.

LACKAWANNA FOOTBALL CONFERENCE DIVISION 1

Delaware Valley 28, Scranton 14

Valley View 28, Wallenpaupack 7

North Pocono 26, Abington Heights 7

What it means

The Valley View-Scranton Prep winner will claim at least a share of the title next week. The winner will share the title with Delaware Valley, unless the Warriors lose to Abington Heights, which would allow for an outright champion. Valley View, Scranton Prep and Delaware Valley are all 4-1 in the division.

How it happened

Scranton and Abington Heights, which each entered the night with two division losses, were eliminated both because they suffered their third loss and because Valley View’s win assures that there will be at least one team finishing 5-1.

LACKAWANNA FOOTBALL CONFERENCE DIVISION 2

Result

Lakeland 35, Western Wayne 28

What it means

Unbeaten Lakeland clinches at least a tie for first place and will take the title outright as long as it avoids a loss against last-place Mid Valley.

How it happened

The teams were the last two unbeatens in divisional play.

LACKAWANNA FOOTBALL CONFERENCE DIVISION 3

Result

Old Forge 17, Riverside 14

What it means

Old Forge clinches at least a tie for first place and will take the title outright as long as it avoids a loss against 3-5 Carbondale next week.

How it happened
