D-I BASKETBALL: Rose scores 12 in loss at No. 8 North Carolina

Sunday’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I basketball schedule saw three District 2 graduates in action.

Here is a recap of how each did:

RACHAEL ROSE, WOFFORD COLLEGE WOMEN

5-foot-7 sophomore guard from Scranton Prep

Sunday’s result

Wofford (7-3) lost at 8th-ranked University of North Carolina (8-1), 99-67.

Individual statistics

Started, played 28 minutes; 3/9 FG, 2/3 on 3-pointers, 4/5 FT, 12 points; 3 defensive rebounds; 2 assists; 5 turnovers.

Notes

Rose was named Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Month for November. She is the first player in Wofford history to earn a player of the month selection. … The game against UNC was tight early. Rose made a 3-pointer just over three minutes into the game to tie the score, 8-8. In the second quarter, Rose made a layup with just over six minutes remaining to bring Wofford within 31-28. North Carolina went on a 12-point run and built a 51-34 halftime lead. … Wofford had a seven-game winning streak broken.

KYLIE LAVELLE, DREXEL UNIVERSITY WOMEN

6-foot-2 freshman forward from Riverside

Sunday’s result

Drexel (5-3) lost to host Yale (5-6), 60-58, in overtime.

Individual statistics

Lavelle did not play.

Notes

Lavelle remains sidelined with an undisclosed lower-body injury. … The Dragons are 4-1 with Lavelle in the lineup and 1-2 without her.

DA’MIR FAISON, NEW JERSEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY MEN

6-foot-7 junior forward from Hazleton Area

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) (1-9) lost at Fairleigh Dickinson (6-6), 73-71.

Came off the bench, played 5 minutes; 1/1 FG, 1/2 FT, 3 points; 2 defensive rebounds.

Notes

FDU tipped in a missed shot with just over one second on the clock to get the win in a back-and-forth contest. … FDU led by as many as eight points in the first half and NJIT led by seven midway through the second half.
