Dallas girls take over final top spot

The Dallas girls used their District 2 Class 2A championship and sixth-place state finish at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships to take over the top spot in the final Riverfront Sports Super Six Swimming Power Rankings of district teams.

The final rankings were released Friday afternoon.

Both Wyoming Seminary teams also moved up since the previous rankings, which were posted right before the start of the District 2 championships.

The Hazleton Area boys joined the Dallas girls making both Wyoming Valley Conference champions the final No. 1 teams.

Dallas and Wyoming Seminary each moved up one spot into first and second in the final girls rankings.

Lackawanna League champion Scranton Prep slipped from first to third.

Dallas, the unbeaten WVC champions, won the District 2 Class 2A title by 109 points over Scranton Prep.

Wyoming Seminary finished one place and 14 points behind Scranton Prep in the district meet, but then finished seventh in the state, 38½ points and five places ahead of the Classics.

Scranton Prep was the unbeaten Lackawanna League champion.

Delaware Valley, the Lackawanna runner-up, won the District 2 Class 3A title to hold fourth place.

Tunkhannock and Valley View also held steady in fifth and sixth.

The top four positions remained the same in the boys rankings.

Hazleton Area added a District 2 Class 3A title to its unbeaten WVC championship to remain in first.

District 2 Class 2A champion Dallas, Scranton Prep and Delaware Valley held second through fourth.

Dallas finished 12th in the state in Class 2A.

Unbeaten Lackawanna League champion Scranton Prep finished third in the district and 20th in the state.

Delaware Valley, the Lackawanna runner-up, also finished second in District 2 Class 3A.

Wyoming Seminary moved up from sixth to fifth. The Blue Knights beat out Scranton Prep for second in District 2 Class 2A, then finished 25th in the state.

Abington Heights dropped from fifth to sixth. The Comets finished third in District 2 Class 3A after also finishing third in the Lackawanna League during the regular season.
